Culinary Workshops serving up exciting and healthy meal ideas

The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission’s (JCDC) Culinary Arts Programme will be hosting a series of regional workshops during the month of March to provide training opportunity and exposure to Jamaicans across the island and to guide and prepare persons interested in entering the 2016 Culinary Competition. There are three remaining workshop in the series, which are free and open to the public.

Daily registration for the workshops begin at 8:30 a.m. and the date and venues for the remaining three workshops are as follows: The Western Region’s culinary workshop will be held on Tuesday, March 15 at the St. John’s Methodist Church Hall in Montego Bay, St. James; in the Northern Region on Wednesday, March 16 at the St. Mary’s Anglican Church Hall in Port Maria, St. Mary; while The Eastern Region’s culinary workshop will be held on Friday, March 18 at the Louise Bennett Garden Theatre at 36 Hope Road, Kingston 10.

These workshops will feature live-cooking demonstrations and presentations from the sponsors Grace Foods, Nestle Jamaica and the National Health Fund, and will surround this year’s themes of “Healthy Living Reimagining Food…Healthy Eating on a Low Budget” and “Eat Healthy…Exercise…Knock-out Obesity.”

According to Paula Williams, JCDC Culinary Arts Development Specialist, “These culinary workshops promise to be especially exciting and interesting as they will be presented under this year’s the health conscious themes. We have some amazing meals planned and can’t wait to get participants involved.”

2016 Culinary Competition Opens
While persons sharpen their skills through the Regional Culinary Workshops, entries are now being accepted for the 2016 Culinary Arts Competition and will close on Friday, April 29, 2016. Entry forms can be accessed on the JCDC website at www.jcdc.gov.jm, at the JCDC parish offices island-wide and at the JCDC Head Office at 3-5 Phoenix Avenue, Kingston 10.
