Day 248 of 365 Things to Do, See & Eat in Jamaica – The Pleasure of Plantains

Plantains

Sure, you’ve seen plantains at the grocery store, but have you ever tried them? Learn about the pleasures of these big green bananas and their sweet and starchy features. Plantains must be cooked first, but once you’ve enjoyed a piping hot side dish of the fruit during a spicy Jamaican meal, you’ll understand what all the fuss is about. Plantains can also be fried and slathered with butter and salt like a sweet potato. Generally eaten as a side dish, you can find them served by themselves in all their gooey richness.
