Hotel Worker in Havana Knows Why Jamaican Athletes Run So Fast

While top Jamaica’s runners like Usain Bolt and Veronica Campbell-Brown have attributed their speed to the fact that they eat lots of yams, Jorge Vasquez, a waiter at the Copacabana Hotel in Miramar, Cuba, has another idea. Vasquez believes Jamaicans can run so fast because they drink a mixture of coconut water and Jamaican rum. “It must be the coconut water,” he says, but it is not only the coconut water. It’s the rum they put in it, which makes them “run, run, run,” says Vasquez.
