This day in Jamaican History – The National Dance Theatre Company of Jamaica

On March 29, 2012, the National Dance Theatre Company of Jamaica celebrated its Golden Jubilee with a performance at the Brooklyn Center for the Performing arts in New York. The company has been performing for 50 years.

One of the premier dance companies in the Caribbean, the National Dance Theatre Company (NDTC) blends the folklore, music, and dance of Jamaica, Africa, and the American South with modern and classical forms to create a vibrant celebration of West Indian culture. Their much-anticipated return to Brooklyn Center will feature two programs combining evocative new works with favorites from their extensive repertoire.

The National Dance Theatre Company was founded in 1962 by Rex Nettleford and Eddy Thomas with fifteen dancers.
