Arthur Williams, an international student from Jamaica and a senior at Hamilton College, received a phone call from United States President Barack Obama’s speech writers while on spring break. He thought the call was a joke at first, but then realized it was real, and the writers were interested in the Emerson Grant entrepreneurship research he had done in Cuba and wanted to consult with him prior to Obama’s visit to that country. Williams has presented his research at the State University of New York (SUNY) Binghamton and was an attendee at the Cuba Opportunity Summit of Nasdaq. He is pursuing a major in Hispanic Studies and a double minor in public policy and African studies. Williams’ project advisor is Omobolaji Olarinmoye, visiting assistant professor government, and his mentor is Reynaldo Ortiz-Minaya, an expert on Cuba and visiting assistant professor of Africana Studies.
