Jamaica presents several EDM music festivals each year, and these are not to be missed. One of EDMs’ premier artistes, Major Lazer, spends considerable time in Jamaica and often uses dancehall and reggae in his creations. The festivals celebrate the direct predecessor to the superstar EDM DJ, or, as known in Jamaica, the sound system selector. The festivals can present 14 or more reggae and/or dancehall “selectors” that represent several generations and sites in North America and the Caribbean. It’s important to note that dance DJs, although the latest in pop music phenomena, can actually be traced directly to the early days of Jamaica’s sound systems, or “mobile discos.”
