Healthcare professional, educator, and philanthropist, Venessa “Dr. V” Walker, is a 24-year Miramar resident, by way of Montego Bay, Jamaica who is seeking election on March 14, 2017 for Miramar City Commissioner Seat 2.  As the Chair of Miramar’s highest advisory Board, Planning and Zoning, Dr. V has a frontline position in approving and making recommendations to the City Commission on all zoning and variance requests that come before the city. Dr. V’s leadership, along with her fellow Planning and Zoning Board Members, documents her ability to provide cordial and professional actions on the Dias.  As a business owner, Dr. V knows how to create jobs and she knows what works for Miramar’s business community. This invaluable experience allows her to hit the ground running as Commissioner.

Dr. V is passionately involved in her community and has received numerous local and national accolades for her civic engagement such as:  Legacy Magazine’s ’40 Under 40 Black Leaders of Today &Tomorrow’, IN FOCUS Magazine’s Multicultural Achievers Award, ICABA’s South Florida’s Most Accomplished Community Leader & “Rising Star,” and The Florida Chiropractic Association’s Emerging Leader. She is a member of the Leadership Broward Class XXXIII and The Links Inc. Dr. V also actively serves as the chiropractor for Miramar High School and Everglades High School and President/Founder of Owen Walker Jr. Foundation (501c3)

At a recent campaign event, Dr. V stated, “I am committed to our community as the issues that concern you, also affect me and my family as well. We are Miramar. I have fond memories growing up here in Miramar and would like to ensure the same for all of my neighbors’ families as well! As Commissioner, I will work together with residents to ensure we can make Miramar even greater; for our youth, seniors, families, businesses and for a bright future ahead.”

She has garnered the support of Miramar’s Mayor Wayne Messam and neighboring elected officials Mayor Eric Jones, Vice Mayor Brian Johnson, Commissioner Felicia Brunson and Kristine Judeikis of West Park, Commissioner Matthew Pigatt of Opa-locka   and Broward County School Board Member Dr. Rosalind Osgood.
