Internship Description
Jamaicans.com invites college students, recent graduates, and aspiring professionals to join one of the Caribbean’s most visited and dynamic websites as an intern for 2014!
The ideal candidates will have the opportunity to gain valuable social media, journalism, public relations, and website management experience and should be responsible and dedicated with an interest in exploring Jamaican/Caribbean history and culture. Interns will receive “by-line” credit for articles and have media accreditation access to events. Candidates must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be computer and Internet proficient.
Interns will receive on-the-job training and ongoing supervision. Duties include but are not limited to writing posts on Jamaican history and culture; conducting research on Jamaica; completing interviews with Jamaican celebrities, entrepreneurs and other well-known personalities; coordinating social media activities; and providing media coverage for Caribbean festivals, concerts, and other events.

Internship Dates and Requirements
The internship is for 12 weeks and requires 5 – 10 hours per week. We have some degree of flexibility and are willing to discuss alternative dates. This internship is unpaid, but college credit is available for eligible interns.

Photography/Video/Media Intern

The ideal candidate will have the opportunity to gain valuable in event & journalistic photography, social media, public relations, and website management experience . Interns will receive “by-line” credit for their work and have media accreditation access to events. Candidates must have excellent verbal communication skills and be computer & Internet proficient. Experience with photography for internet publication is preferred. Scheduling is flexible, allowing for the Interns to match their school schedule with our needs.
Responsibilities
– Attend, take and edit photography/video for Caribbean events (festivals/concerts etc) for use on our website and social media.
– Support staff with organizing, archiving, promoting and producing featured photos
– Publish videos/photos primarily to the web and touch-up still photography
Requirements
– Have the potential to deliver videos and photos that succinctly and clearly tell the desired story
– Ability to deliver videos with cuts, graphics, sound and other elements that convey a quality production value and a level of technical sophistication
– Experience with Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Captivate and Adobe Photoshop
– Knowledge of digital videography and photography cameras and equipment
Editorial /Social Media/ Journalism Intern

The ideal candidate will have the opportunity to gain valuable in journalistic, social media, public relations, and website management experience . Interns will receive “by-line” credit for their work . Candidates must have excellent communication skills, fluent in English and possess excellent writing and be computer & Internet proficient. Experience with writing for internet publication is preferred. Scheduling is flexible, allowing for the Interns to match their school schedule with our needs.
Responsibilities
– Conducting interviews via email with Caribbean Personalities
– Assist with editorial projects and provide support for articles being published.
– Proofreading both electronic files, basic copy editing, and writing
– Assisting with Social Media marketing and promotions
– Work on special projects, as needed
Requirements
– Working towards a Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, English, business communications, or communication arts.
– Strong organizational and communication skills with keen attention to detail and problem solving skills
– Knowledge of MS Office applications, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
– Experience/interest in Web maintenance
– Familiarity with a Photo editing program
Graphic Design Intern

Candidates must have excellent communication skills and be computer & Internet proficient. Experience with graphic design for internet publication is preferred. – Assists in the design and development of layouts for marketing materials, using appealing graphics that are well organized
– Responsible to incorporate current design trends into each unique layout to produce an up-to-date style for custom ads
– Ability to exercise good judgment when interpreting instructions and to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions
– Utilize strong written skills and bring effective visual ideas from concept through to completion
Requirements
– Working towards a BA or certificate from a Fine Arts program/Graphic Design school
– Experience with Adobe InDesign, and proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator
– Knowledge of Mac OS and software upgrades and proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
– Must be a team player and flourish in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment

Social Media Assistant
Description
Virtual Social Media Assistant internship for online website covering news, travel, culture, entertainment and events in the Jamaican Diaspora, Jamaica and the Caribbean. We are looking for a social media intern to be involved Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and google plus and our blog. Scheduling is flexible, allowing for the Interns to match their school schedule with our needs.
Responsibilities
– Creating fun content for our social media sites & blogs
– Post news and updates on our social media sites to increase website exposure
– Utilizes social media to engage with a community of fans/followers online
Requirements
– Provide links to 1-3 social networking profiles to demonstrate interest and knowledge
– Possesses skills in writing, presentation, interpersonal relations, and customer management
– Performs well in environment that values creativity, flexibility, and variety
– Exhibits personal qualities, such as open-mindedness, enthusiasm, and adaptability

Social Media Intern (On site in our Pembroke Pines office)
Work with our TV production team that has a Caribbean and diaspora focus. We seek an intern(s) to develop and manage online social media campaigns. Must already be internet and media savvy, and preferably familiar with platforms including facebook, instagram, twitter and google+.
– Minimum 2 days weekly
– Preferably familiar with facebook, instagram, twitter and google plus promotions
– Preferably familiar with photoshop
– Preferably familiar with WordPress
– Must have good command of English because some promotional copy writing will be required.
– Responsibilities will include collaborating on online promotional strategy, preparing weekly email promotions, posting new episodes and installments on websites and social media platforms, engaging viewers and potential viewers on social media platforms, building online audience.
Production / journalism intern (On site in our Pembroke Pines office)
Work with our TV production team that has a Caribbean and diaspora focus. We seek an intern(s) to assist in story development and video editing. Preferably familiar with Adobe Premiere Pro and MUST have strong interest in documentary type video production and story editing.
– Minimum 2 days weekly
– Preferably familiar with Adobe Premiere Pro
– Must be committed to meeting strict deadlines
– Will work closely with executive producer and team to develop and finalize stories from existing interviews.
