Jamaican American Attorney Niyala Harrison Named 2019 DBR “On the Rise” Award Winner

The Daily Business Review (DBR) has announced the recipients of its 2019 Professional Excellence Awards. Among the winners is Jamaican-American attorney Niyala Harrison of the firm Squire Patton Boggs. She is the recipient of an “On the Rise” award, which is presented to promising attorneys under the age of 40. The DBR awards are given in recognition of outstanding achievements by Florida legal professionals and will be presented at a ceremony on May 23, 2019, at the Rusty Pelican in Miami, Florida.

Harrison is an associate at her firm’s Miami office. Her practice focuses on public finance issues in which she represents cities, counties, state agencies, and nonprofits concerning tax-exempt matters. She was presented with the award in recognition of her dedication to excellence and philanthropy. Prior to practicing law, Harrison spent over two years as a City Planner in Broward County, in charge of guiding its growth and development. She is a long-time member of the Caribbean Bar Association and served as the organization’s president. She is the former president-elect and vice-president of the group as well. Harrison is active in volunteering at citizenship drives to help complete citizenship applications for eligible legal permanent residents. She has also been an author and Room Host for the Miami Book Fair International

In 2015, Harrison was recognized as the “Top Dealmaker of the Year” in the Public Finance category by the Daily Business Review and was named one of the “40 under 40 Outstanding Lawyers of Miami-Dade County” by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Harrison was chosen was by Squire Patton Boggs to participate in the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) Pathfinder Program, a program created for diverse, high-potential, early career lawyers.
