July 1, 2015, has been designated as International Reggae Day, with celebratory events being held from Jamaica to London and New York. International Reggae Day (IRD) was initiated in 1994 as a way to focus on Kingston as the real home of the global music genre. IRD celebrations have spread worldwide since 1994 with festivals including concerts, workshops, lectures, award ceremonies, fashion and art exhibits, and product introductions.
