KINGSTON, Jamaica – The 7th staging of the Douglas Forrest Invitational will have three new events as it moves into its dream home, National Stadium, for the first time.
The three events, discus, pole vault, and javelin, all in the field, have been added according to Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Brian Smith, because of the facility inside the Stadium, unlike that of Stadium East, caters for them.
Smith added that they want to cater for all the events and that organizing committee is hoping to have the meet over two days in the near future.
“That was one of our dreams,” he added while saying another is “to start at noon on Friday and ends at 6pm on Saturday” Smith said at the launch held at Alhambra Inn in Kingston, on Thursday.
The other events to be contested, between 8:30am and 6:30pm on the day, are – 400m hurdles, 3000m, 5000m, 200m, 800m, 1500m, medley relay, 4x400m, long jump, high jump, shot put and triple jump.
Again, several overseas athletes are scheduled to take part at this year’s meet, which will be held the same day as the PUMA/JAAA Development Meet at Kirkvine.
Meanwhile, American World and Olympic Games champion Dwight Phillips will be attending this year’s meet set for January 14.
