On September 11, 2004, Hurricane Ivan passed near Jamaica, causing significant wind & flood damage. Overall, 17 people were killed in Jamaica and 18,000 people were left homeless as a result of the flood waters & high winds. The estimated damage on Jamaica totaled US$360 million.
