In an interview with Sky News, former chairman of telecommunications giant Digicel, Denis O’Brien said that compensating Caribbean countries for the transatlantic slave trade represented the most critical issue for the region. He added that the slave trade was a “300-year Holocaust” in which millions of people died. When he founded Digicel in 2001, O’Brien said that he “feels Caribbean” and asked, “Why shouldn’t I start a reparatory justice campaign just because I’m white.”
