Deborah Johnson, the Founder of the brand BEE FREE have always had big dreams of starting her own clothing line. From a very young age in Jamaica, she would watch her mom make fancy little dresses for her and her sisters. It was a weekend activity for her mother Evadne and “her girls” to play dress-up as she constructed her own designs for her four beautiful daughters. Deborah’s father Joseph also exposed her to the garment industry through his business. He was the proud owner of one of the best custom tailoring business in their town. His business was known as “the little Tailor Shop on the hill” in the town of Mandeville, Manchester. The space was quite small but produced some of the best garments you could find in town!
Deborah would spend her evenings after school watching her dad, cut and sew many garments for the people of Manchester going to weddings, graduations etc. She was not only exposed to the making of the garments but to the excitement, satisfaction and gratitude of the customers as they would do their fittings. It would delight her to see her dad & his customers so happy. This feeling of delight and joy never stayed with her and it is what propelled Deborah to go after her this special dream of being a Fashion Designer. She wanted to make people happy through her clothing!
This weekend she hopes she can make you happy too! So come on out and check out the Bee Free “SUMMER IN THE CITY” fashion show at The Farm in SoHo NYC located at 447 Broadway, NY NY starting from the hours of 6pm sharp and ending at 9pm!
So come on out and support another Jamaican doing big tings!
