GRENADA BOARD OF TOURISM PROMOTES GRENADA IN BARBADOS & TRINIDAD

Dateline St. George’s: The Grenada Board of Tourism, in conjunction with the Grenada Hotel & Tourism Association has hosted successfully, its annual promotional campaign in the region. Emphasis was placed on the islands of Trinidad and Barbados, since they are the leading regional suppliers of visitors to Grenada, supplying 53% and 16% respectively of the Caricom market.

Live radio and television interviews, together with interviews by newspaper journalists were conducted. Mini Trade Show Presentations and Cocktails were also held in Bridgetown, Port of Spain, and San Fernando where over three hundred (300) members of the travel trade attended and were given information about Grenada’s current offerings as a destination, along with details about the main activities within the Calendar of Events for 2009.

The promotion was structured to offer incentives and prizes that can stimulate interest among the travel trade and media of those regional source markets.

Given the present high cost of air travel to Grenada, the Grenada Board of Tourism and members of the Grenada Hotel & Tourism Association who represented twelve (12) hotels are satisfied that there is sincere enthusiasm among the travel trade in those islands to sell Grenada passionately. It is therefore anticipated that the upcoming months will witness significant travel from those islands to Grenada.

The GBT is grateful to LIAT and the hoteliers whose involvement contributed to the success of this year’s initiative. Efforts to create new and exciting packages to encourage visitors to Grenada continue, as collaboration is enhanced among service providers to survive the current economic melt down that is impacting tourism globally. There are also plans to organize special FAM trips to Grenada so that some of the travel agents who attended the Grenada presentations will be able to experience the Grenada product first hand.
