Johnny Daley’s One Man Show Connects

The expected action for most couples on Valentine’s Day is not usually laughter, but this past Sunday side splitting humor was the order of the day as Christopher Johnny Daley presented his One Man Show at the Courtleigh Auditorium.

The event is the first time the actor, host and comedian has given his Jamaican fans the opportunity to see him perform his solo stand up act. Johnny is no novice to stand up solo performances though and has performed well received sets in the Caribbean, US and UK over the years. Most recently Daley performed with US comedic talent David Mann for his Brooklyn College event in New York.

For this Sunday’s Valentines Showcase, ‘Johnny LIVE’ – One Man Show featured two performances in one night. The first show featured a performance from Mackeehan Soloman and was hosted by Elva while the later show saw performances from Jay Prince, Latty J and Nickesha Barnes while Pretty Boy Floyd carried out hosting duties.

Johnny took the opportunity to highlight his journey on television from the days of starring in the TV series Lime Tree Lane to countless performances in the local theatre and international stage appearances.

During his routine, he made light of his own experience as a poor and happy child living in a board house in a lane in the inner city of Kingston. He also highlighted his struggle with corporate companies after the controversial video of him was released. Johnny mixed real experiences, humor and music for a solid one hour and fifteen minute set that thoroughly entertained the above average sized crowd for both shows.

Ably assisted by his DJ, Krazy Dean, Daley also added musical selections that connected with the audience, filled with mostly couples, and added instructions to females on how to keep the fire burning in their relationship with a saucy dance interlude courtesy of Dance Xpressionz.

The well organized production, spearheaded by Robin Baston of RBA productions, should also be seeing itself on tour later this year.

“People have already been touching base from the US about taking the show to some states and we also will be looking at taking the showcase to other parishes in Jamaica as well” Chris Daley shared

The Johnny LIVE, One Man Show highlights the reach and popularity of standup comedy here in Jamaica and the growth of Jamaica’s first Child Star, Christopher Johnny Daley. He is currently featured in the ‘Kingston Paradise’ motion picture that has been featured at numerous film festivals across the globe and was well received at the Jamaica Film Festival last year. The film should have its Jamaican theatrical run later this year.
