Jamaica’s Usain Bolt is the first athlete to win three consecutive 100-meter Olympic gold medals, clocking 9.81 seconds in the final at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. He defeated silver-medal winner Justin Gatlin, his rival from the United States, by 0.08 seconds and received his seventh Olympic gold medal. Canada’s Andre de Grasse won the bronze. Bolt took the lead over Gatlin with some 30 meters left in the race, adding to the gold medals he won in 2008 in Beijing and 2012 in London. Upon finishing the race, Bolt kicked off his gold spikes and struck his signature “lightning” pose with the Jamaican flag draped around his shoulders.
