A highly decorated poet, raconteur and observationist, Jamaica’s Miss Lou [Louise Bennett Coverley ] is well loved and respected…the world over and this love affair with Miss Lou has been going on now for quite a long time. She recognized and revealed colonial mentality for what it was. She was committed to uplifting Jamaica and Jamaicans and even if the politics of the 70s caused her relocation to Canada, her willingness to say what needed to be said never wavered. Perhaps it’s the ‘way’ she did it…like no one before her..or since…that keeps Miss Lou in the upper reaches of the hearts and minds of Jamaicans, and other thinking peoples, the world over.
