Looking to shake-up the traditional July 4th fireworks and picnics? The Reef Resort, Grand Cayman is the place to be this holiday weekend. How does a Cayman- styled chili festival complete with kids festivities, a huge smores pit, local Cayman bands and of course, long stretches of white sandy beaches and cerulean waters sound? It gets even better. This event is sanctioned by the International Chili Society, (ICS) and the winner of the Cayman cook-off is automatically eligible to compete in the Las Vegas World Chili Championships in October.

Kick off the weekend with a welcome to the festival beach party complete with a beach barbeque, the smooth soca sounds of Cayman’s own Lammie. Sip on an adult beverage as Bacardi, Bud and Caybew (a local brew mister) also welcome guests.
After a fabulous Friday, sleep late as the activities for Saturday begin at 1:00 pm. Spend a glorious morning at the beach, and after breakfast families can make their way to the kid’s corner, with bouncy castles, dunk tank, arts and crafts, face-painting, cotton candy, treasure hunts, smores pit, and water sports activities. Activities for kid’s corner will progress throughout the day and end with a dazzling fireworks display.
While the kids are playing, the cook-off entrants are busy putting their secret recipes together. The cooking begins at 2 pm and ends at 5 pm, while the tastings and judging follows from 6 – 7 pm.
As the cook-off entrants are busy whipping up tasty chili dishes, local bands; Gone Country, Red White and Blue, Sea & B, and the legendary Barefoot man will offer live musical entertainment while Z-99 and Roostee radio stations will also be on-site broadcasting. Of course, adult beverages to compliment any chili festival will be on hand; a Cuervo Gold Margarita tent, a Corona tent, and a Bacardi mojito bar will be serving icy cold cocktails and brews.
The party doesn’t end on Saturday, Sunday is another fun day chock-full of activities and great food. Also on the menu for Sunday morning, a Stoli Bloody Mary bar and a mouth-watering international brunch buffet. Join the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism for a “cultural scavenger hunt” as they tour the island recalling iconic culture landmarks; Pedros Castle, Mastic Trail, Queen Elizabeth II Botanical Park, Stingray City and more.
