Jamaica’s Olympic champion athletes Usain Bolt, Veronica Campbell-Brown, Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce, and Asafa Powell will be honored with statues at Kingston’s National Stadium Statue Park in 2017. It is expected that the statues of Bolt and Fraser-Pryce will be finished in time for the 55th anniversary of Jamaican Independence in 2017. According to Olivia Grange, the statues of Campbell-Brown and Powell are slated for completion the following year. The four statues are meant to recognize the outstanding contributions these athletes have made to track and field in Jamaica. Already in the area where the new statues will be erected are statues of reggae legend Bob Marley and Olympic sprint notables Herb McKenley, Don Quarrie, and Merlene Ottey. Bolt called McKenley the greatest Olympian of all time in 2014.
