Reggae Girlz’ Khadija Shaw Signs with Nike

Jamaica’s Khadija “Bunny” Shaw, star striker on the Reggae Girlz football team, has signed on with Nike, the prominent sportswear firm based in the United States. A&V Sports, the world-renowned sports agency, made the announcement that Shaw is now Nike’s newest ambassador. While the official details of the contract remain unknown, A&V posted a photo of Shaw, 22, on its website wearing a t-shirt with the Nike brand on it and holding a pair of Nike’s Mercurial boots. The photo was captioned, “Geared up for the summer. How about them new cleats @bun_bun10? Welcome to the @nike family, Bunny!”

Shaw of the University of Tennessee led the Jamaican team to its historic first FIFA Women’s World Cup qualification in France in October 2018. She scored 19 goals in qualifying and dominated the headlines during the qualifying matches as a talismanic figure for the team. Shaw won the title of Guardian Footballer of the Year for 2018 and was the top scorer for her school at the NCAA Championships with 27 goals in 32 matches. Shaw also achieved the most assists with 11 for the Tennessee volunteers through the season. Sports commentators worldwide have called her one of the most exciting players heading into the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Shaw is also one of the female players most in demand in the world. She is expected to make a move to Europe once she completes her education. Shaw represented Jamaica in 2011 at age 14 in the under-15, under-17, and under-20 levels before joining the senior team in August 2015.

Khadija Monita “Bunny” Shaw was born in 1997 in Spanish Town, Jamaica. She is a senior at the University of Tennessee and was one of five players from the UT team to receive All-AEC honors. She was also named First Team All-SEC and is the second athlete from UT in history to earn the league’s title of Offensive Player of the Year. Shaw splits her playing season between UT and the Reggae Girlz. Before joining the UT Lady Volunteers, she attended Navano College in Texas and Eastern Florida State College.
