Delroy Lindo, an actor with a powerful presence in any role he takes, will play t Marcus Garvey, Jr., the eminent Jamaican political leader, publisher, orator, entrepreneur, and journalist. Garvey was a strong supporter of Black Nationalism and Pan-African movements, which led him to found the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League (UNA-ACL). Garvey also founded the Black Star Line, a pioneering effort to promote the return of individuals in the African Diaspora to the lands of their ancestors. Delroy Lindo first attracted attention in his role of “Archie” in  “Malcolm X,” the film directed by Spike Lee. Lee was so impressed with his performance that he cast him in several other films, including “Crooklyn” and “Clockers.” In 1996, he played Leroy “Satchel” Paige, the baseball player, in “Soul of the Game,” and won an NAACP Image Award nomination for his performance. Born to Jamaican parents in Lewisham, England, he moved with his mother to Toronto, Canada, and then to the United States, where he graduated from the American Conservancy Theater in San Francisco.
