The Haemodialysis (Renal) Unit of the Mandeville Regional Hospital has received another lifeline from proceeds from the High Mountain Coffee 10K Road Race valued at $750,000.

The Renal Clinic which has benefitted greatly from proceeds from the annual 10K Road Race is now in its fifth year of benefitting from donations which was handed over on June 1 at the Mandeville Regional Hospital.

CEO of the hospital, Mr. Alwyn Miller in expressing gratitude for the well needed funds noted that the contribution will be strategically used in boosting its services. This, he said will be done through the procurement of supplies and retooling in an effort to reduce or prevent machine down time.

Chairman of the Southern Regional Health Authority, Mr. Wayne Chen described the contribution by the Road Race Committee as an example of an effective public/private partnership.

“With all the good intent that Governments may have, the resources will never be enough and so it is imperative that we get all hands on deck” Mr. Chen added. He noted that in addition to financial contributions, the Government welcomes other donations.

Chairman of the High Mountain Road Race Committee, John O. Minott Jnr. said the Committee supports the Renal Unit because it not only provides well need support but its assistance also encourages persons to live healthy lives in order to prevent diseases such as renal diseases.
