urks & Caicos Sporting Club Coming To ESPN

Tune in to ESPN2 Sunday, January 21 at 8:00 am and Sunday, February 11 at 8:00 am to watch Captain Jose Wejebe, host of “The Spanish Fly,” bonefish, spearfish and dive with Turks & Caicos Sporting Club guides Captain Byron Sewell and Captain Martee Doverspike.

“The Spanish Fly,” ESPN2’s longest running outdoor program, documents host Jose Wejebe’s fishing journeys, from his home waters of the Florida Keys to exotic locale like Venezuela, Costa Rica and Brazil. Captain Wejebe is one of the most respected fishing guides on the planet and began fishing as a boy on Miami’s beaches after his family fled Cuba in the 1960s. Today, he shares his passion for fishing with millions.

Wejebe and his friend, Captain Rush Maltz, recently fished with Sporting Club guides Byron Sewell and Martee Doverspike. The group explored Ambergris Cay’s offshore waters for grouper and the inshore flats for bonefish, went diving and spear fished with South Caicos pro Captain Soupee.

“What a great time,” said Captain Wejebe. “To see a community of this scope taking shape while exploring untouched waters was truly amazing. Ambergris Cay is a beautiful island surrounded by bountiful waters. Byron and Martee were skillful, accommodating guides. Even the lizards were cool! Talk about paradise, this is it.”

Captains Wejebe and Maltz plan to return to Ambergris Cay and the
Turks and Caicos Islands to film the outstanding blue water fishing for Wahoo, Marlin, Tuna and Mahi Mahi, all just a few miles offshore of Ambergris Cay.

Captains Byron and Martee enjoyed their fishing adventure with Jose and Rush as well. “It was great to explore with Jose and Rush and learn some great new angling techniques from them,” said Captain Byron. “We look forward to seeing the show on ESPN2 and having them both back to explore the Ambergris Cay waters again soon.”
