Taking place on the same weekend as the famous St Croix International Regatta, the Valentine Optimist Regatta is a chance for younger sailors to get in on the sailing action. Racing takes place in the pretty Teague Bay and there are plenty of shoreside activities for kids and their parents, including the popular taco and pizza parties at local restaurants. Unlike the winners of the adult regatta who are rewarded with prizes of local rum, junior winners receive cases of soft drinks instead – not to mention the kudos of being the year’s champion. The event is open to four classes – Green Fleet (15 and under), Red Fleet (ages 13-15), Blue Fleet (ages 11-12) and White Fleet (10 and under)
