This day in Jamaican History – PBS Features First Caribbean cooking show

On March 28, 2015, the Public Broadcasting System (PBS) in the United States featured the Caribbean cooking show,“Taste the Islands”. Over 130 public television stations across the United States carried the seven-part series “Taste the Islands with Chef Irie”. It was the first Caribbean cooking show and the first Jamaican-produced series to be aired nationally on the public television network. Viewers of public television across the United States were able to savor the flavors of the Caribbean with Chef Irie. From preparing homemade spicy jerk seasoning to Latin-inspired mussels chorizo in mango coconut sauce, Jamaican-born host Chef Irie tantalized viewers with traditional and gourmet Caribbean recipes. “Taste the Islands” executive producer is Jamaican Calibe Thompson.
