The recent shootings in the United States have prompted the Bahamas to issue a travel advisory for the U.S. In the advisory, the nation’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted the heightened tensions in some American cities arising from recent shootings of young African American men by police. The Ministry is advising all Bahamians traveling to the U.S., particularly those planning to visit the cities involved with the shootings, to use “appropriate caution” and “young males are asked to exercise extreme caution” in these cities in any interactions with police. Specifically, they are advised “Do not be confrontational and cooperate.” If visitors experience any issues, they should allow the Bahamian consular offices to handle them, and they should not become involved in any political or other demonstrations, as well as avoid crowds, according to the advisory.
