Bankra Caribbean Folk Festival, New York, June 3rd, 2017
Bankra Caribbean Folk Festival

BRAATA Productions, founded by Jamaican actor, MC and singer Andrew Clarke, always gives a little more, but on Saturday June 3 they will be giving a lot more with the presentation of the third Bankra Caribbean Folk Festival at 160th Street in Jamaica Queens (between Jamaica Avenue and 90th Street)

Not just a Jamaican celebration, the Braata group has again drawn on the rich cultures of other Caribbean islands, including Trinidad, Guyana, St. Lucia, Antigua and Dominica. The event kicks off at noon with a smorgasbord of foods, drinks and vendors all representing the very best of their islands in one form or another. Children will be feted with clowns and face paintings and revelry galore with games for both adults and children. The Stilt Walkers; always a hit; will amaze with their dexterity and prowess on 20 foot high stilts, and the highlight of the day – the highly anticipated concert commencing at 4:00 pm will showcase music and dancing both on and off stage with an exciting and surprising array of Caribbean artists celebrating folk forms and folk culture with contemporary forms of entertainment thrown into the mix.

With its growing reach and popularity, the Bankra Caribbean Folk Festival gives the curious, returning attendees and those looking for something to do on a sunny June day, an opportunity to sample the rich culture of the Caribbean, taste the spicy and mouth-watering dishes that drive tourism to the Caribbean at an event which will definitely also bring more than a little of that Caribbean Jena sais quoi to the Queens community.
