Day 143 of 365 Things to Do, See & Eat in Jamaica – Dive into Port Royal

This town is the legendary haven for pirates in the 17th century. An earthquake submerged much of the town in 1692, and now the drowned portions of the old city represent an underwater archaeological treasure trove consisting of eight buildings in various stages of preservation and ruin. The UNESCO World Heritage Conservation program describes the collection as “unrivaled” and while the site is closed to recreational divers, many of the artifacts found here can be viewed at Kingston’s National Museum.

In case you missed any of the past “365 Things to Do, See and Eat in Jamaica“, here they are all together.
