Day 312 of 365 Things to Do, See & Eat in Jamaica – Visit 32 Market Street in St. Ann’s Bay

Pay your respects to Jamaica’s first National Hero Marcus Garvey at his birthplace at 32 Market Street in St. Ann’s Bay. The house he was born in, in 1877, is still on the property and currently occupied. The government is planning to acquire the house and turn it into a public museum to honor Garvey’s life and works. There is a bust of Marcus Garvey in the front of the house that was erected through the efforts of Anthony Scott and the African People Association.
