Twenty-four-year-old Ikem Smith, freelance visual artist and graduate of Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts, was the winner of the VYBZING Jamaica Animated Music Video Challenge for 2016. The competition is sponsored by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB). Along with the honor of winning, Smith will receive a cash prize of US$2,000 for his entry, “Funky Beam School Band.” The theme for the 2016 contest was “Beam Me Up with ICTs.” It was designed to encourage a focus on how ICT can transform the social, economic, cultural and educational situations of young people in Jamaica. The Challenge was open to residents of Jamaica ages 16 – 29.
The Animated Video Challenge is just one of the three activities held under the VYBZING programme. The others include a youth forum and a youth presentation. 2016 VYBZING Jamaica is in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Culture.
