Who would have thought of this? A book comprising 50 book reviews? This is a first and very unique concept that just happens to work.

To commemorate Jamaica’s 50th anniversary of Independence this book will establish the remarkable strides Jamaican authors have made in Literature, including poetry as well as prose.

The books and their authors are as diverse as the island itself. The reviews are in-depth and incisive. Dr. Hanna’s professional reviews regularly appear in the Jamaica Sunday Gleaner and Sunday Observer and now she has brought a number of them together for your ease of reference.

Professors looking for books to teach on Jamaican literature and students looking to delve into Jamaica’s literary culture take note that this is the first such book that is available to you.

Avid readers interested in Caribbean works of Literature will be enticed by this evoc-ative selection of Jamaican literati.

I have been reading this book and I am amazed at the depth of the compilation. Mary Hanna has gone through great lengths to capture the themes and spirit of 50 outstanding books by Jamaican authors. Her writing is crisp and knowledgeable, her tone respectful but never compromising. I am pleased to recommend this book to anyone who enjoys good writing and would like an informed view of contemporary Jamaican works.

Mary Hanna, author of the ebook “Jamaica Writes”, was born in Jamaica and attended Wolmer’s School. She is a writer and teacher in Kingston, with a PhD. from the Department of Literatures in English at the University of the West Indies, Mona.
