Dr. Peter Nelson, 25, received one of five post-doctoral fellowships at Israel’s Weizmann Institute of Science. Dr. Nelson was selected from 280 applicants from around the world. Dr. Nelson, who is a native of St. Thomas, has already attained a Bachelor of Science degree, an Mph and a PhD in chemistry from the University of the West Indies (UWI). According to Dr. Nelson, getting into the Weizmann Institute is very competitive, but he was chosen, in part, because of papers he had published in international journals. He competed his Mphil and PhD at UWI in just three-and-half years; it usually takes a full-time student five years to complete the course of study, and seven years for a part-timer.
