Jamaican Vivienne Cunningham, a real estate agent, has been honored as Volunteer of the Year for 2015 by New Beginnings, an agency that assists homeless individuals. Every Saturday, Ms. Cunningham sets up tents in a supermarket parking lot and provides groceries and clothing to the homeless. She asks for donations of food and clothes, and when people bring items, she gives them away. Previously, Ms. Cunningham led the Helping Hands ministry at New Beginnings in Clermont. She said she was “shocked” at receiving the award, noting that she realized other people had more problems than she does and just wants to give back to the community. Her parking-lot give-aways serve some 30 families who come each week for food and other types of assistance.
