Mike Field Jazz Quintet

Fresh off a Los Angeles/Australian/New Zealand tour including showcases at the prestigious Nelson Jazz Festival, plus an intense European tour with stops in Germany and Italy, the award-winning, Toronto-based trumpeter and composer MIKE FIELD celebrates his homecoming with a multitude of shows in ON and BC as well as major festival dates. Somewhere between concerts, Field and band also found time to visit Canterbury studios to record a third album to be released in the fall of this year.
Touring is the life and love for jazz trumpeter and sometimes guitar player Mike Field. Now a welcome treasure for Australian and New Zealand jazz festivals and venues, Field has made new fans in Germany and Italy this past few months as well. Hot on the heels of his highly successful tour, Field continues the whirlwind of activity with more festival concerts in Ontario and then heads out west for a string of B.C. shows and then off to New Zealand again.

One would think that a daunting schedule such as the one Field adheres to would make for little writing time, but he manages to compose a continuous stream of new material. As if that’s not enough, Field and his group of fresh, topnotch musicians gathered to record his third album for release in the fall. The new compositions will bring some of the same influences and upbeat energy as his sophomore album Rush Mode – an eclectic collection of jazz tunes ranging from classic bebop to Hispanic-influenced romps and winner of two Australian Independent Music Video Awards (AIMVAs) – but with fuller production and performed by some of the country’s finest session musicians. Field’s writing is usually heavily influenced by his travelling experiences so we can expect some Italian cantautori and maybe even a jazz-polka.
