No-name Brand

Look at me with both eyes
and tell me what you see.

do you see me for who i am?

kinky hair, thick lips.
narrow hips, and a permanent
tan?
skinny legs, spaced teeth, and
a smile so wide it seduces
anyone?

do you see two brilliant eyes,
set as deep as the sea, overflowing
with intelligence – not to be fooled
by any man?

do you feel my spirit, thirsting for
adventure? aching to see the world
and all its treasures? longing to drink
from the cup of pleasure?

i am not a slave to colour or a captive
of my gender. i am not a companion of
hate or the mistress of prejudice.

I am FREE no matter what labels you put on me – I am a no-name brand of human being.
