The ninth annual Louise Bennett-Coverley/Miss Lou Reading Festival was held on Saturday, February 6th, 2016, at the Broward College Performing Cultural Arts Theater in Pembroke Pines, Florida. Headlining the festival was Jamaica’s renowned comedian, writer, educator and performing artist, Owen “Blakka” Ellis. He shared perspectives on his relationship with the late Louise Bennett Coverley. Affectionately known as “Miss Lou” the Hon. Louise Bennett Coverley OJ, MBE (1919-2006) was Jamaica’s former international cultural ambassador. This year’s festival, which featured rich cultural performances, was titled “Lyrics, Laughter & Lessons – Jamaican Comedy & the Legacy of Miss Lou”. The event was a part of the Broward Collegeand Friends of the South Regional Broward Library, Black History month celebration. Here are photo highlights from the 2016 Miss Lou Festival.
