Reality Check

We watch as they turn to you,
Seeking love, beauty, fame, fortune.
They will do anything, eat anything,
Say anything, wear anything,
So they can become
The swan the apprentice the next top model
The bachelor the idol the last comic standing, the
Sole
Survivor
Anyone, but who they are,
Empty shells living a dream deferred.

We watch as one by one
They are voted off, fired, banished.
They leave without fire, without a rose
Carrying empty suitcases, making empty promises.

We watch as more of them seek you out
In their quest to be a part of the real word
Fabricated by Simon’s sass,
Tyra’s pizzazz,
Jeff’s wisdom.

Apparently fear is not a factor for them,
The not yet unplugged,
Who continue to be the food that sustains you.
