The Picture

All I got is a picture
Jamaican smile
Jamaican children
One bigger, one smaller.
A Jamaican mother
Two Jamaican daughters
Smiles as good as her’s can be
Sitting still, posing happy
Disneyland in France.
How close to Woolwich
How far from Jamaica land of birth.

All I got is a picture
It came once by mail
When all was well
And it stays with me
It gave me life
It keeps me from hell
It was in hell with me
But it did not burn
It remains alive and real
As the person I once met
As the person I still love
