On this day in Jamaican History: On July 11th, 1947 is a reggae singer and songwriter John Holt was born in Kingston, Jamaica. He found prominence in his early career as the lead singer for the group The Paragons. One of their biggest hits was the Holt penned song “The Tide Is High” which was later made famous internationally by Blondie. John Holt passed away on 19 October 2014.
