Reggae artiste Popcaan won the 2016 MOBO (Music Of Black Origin) Award for “Best Reggae Act” at a ceremony in Glasgow, Scotland. This was the 21st edition of the MOBOs, and the fifth nomination for Popcaan (real name: Andre Sutherland). The musician also won the same award in 2015. In accepting the award, Popcaan sent his respect out to all of his producers in Jamaica and England, noting that he appreciated the love he gets from the United Kingdom and wants to make his British fans proud in the same way he wants to make his Jamaican fans proud. He added, “Big up Unruly Entertainment. This is my second MOBO award and I wanna say thank you to my fans. Without my fans there would be no MOBO.” Popcaan has had a presence on the Britain’s national hit chart, scoring a Top 10 hit on Melissa Steel’s “Kisses For Breakfast”. He was also featured on Aluna George’s “I’m in Control” and DJ/producer Jamie XX’s “I Know There’s Gonna Be Good Times.” The MOBO awards recognize artistes of any nationality or ethnicity who perform black music. The event is promoted as the largest celebration of urban talent in reggae, soul, hip hop, grime, and Afrobeats.
