The city of Orlando, Florida, has proclaimed July 14. 2016, the day to honor Jamaican-born U.S. Army Captain Maxine D. Reyes. She was honored for her contributions to the Orlando community while continuing her service in the U.S. Military. Reyes has been called the “most involved military member” in the community. According to Reyes, Orlando has a special place in her heart because of the “amazing” people with whom she has shared “so many volunteer hours, laughter and pain.” Reyes said she was completely surprised by the city’s proclamation, which has given her an entirely new outlook on ways to move forward in serving her community in the future. “It has boosted my desire to lead in organizations which assist those in need in the community.”
