Jamaica’s sprint superstar Usain Bolt completed the “triple-triple”, becoming the first man in the history of the Olympics to win three gold medals in three straight Games, as he anchored his nation’s
4×100-meter relay team as it achieved the win at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Bolt broke away from his rival runners during the final leg of the relay, taking Jamaica to the finish line in 37.27 seconds. The victory brought him his ninth Olympic gold medal and secured his place in history. The Jamaican team started fast with Asafa Powell handing over to Yohan Blake for the second leg. Blake outpaced Justin Gatlin of the United States and then handed over to Nickel Ashmeade for the third leg. Ashmeade had a great performance before handing over to Bolt for the final leg for the win. Japan won the silver medal with a time of 37.60 seconds, and Canada took the bronze, clocking 37.64 seconds. The total number of medals won by Jamaica thus far in Rio is six gold, one silver, and two bronze.
