Ashlie Barrett, Miss French Connection Events, was named Miss Jamaica World for 2016 at the Iberostar Rose Hall Resort. First runner-up at the 2016 Miss Jamaica World competition was Whitney Levy, while second runner-up was Milinda Smith. Jamaica has had three winners of the Miss World title to date, including Carole Crawford, Cindy Breakspeare and Lisa Hanna. Barrett, who comes from Kingston, succeeds Sanneta Myrie as the reigning Miss Jamaica World. Myrie was the fourth runner-up at the Miss World pageant in 2015. Myrie, a 24-year-old doctor, was the first contestant with dreadlocks to represent her country at the pageant. Ashlie Barrett was chosen for the crown from among 14 other contestants and will now compete at the Miss World 2016 pageant in December in the United States. In the light of Jamaica’s past performance in the pageant, expectations are high for Ashlie Barrett.
