Canton, Ohio, Gets New Jamaican Restaurant

Irie Island Jamaican, a new restaurant in Canton, Ohio, is ready to open, and the owners say it is the first Jamaican restaurant in the city. Melissa Bailey and husband, Karl Green, say the menu will include ox tails, jerk chicken, and Caribbean cabbage. Green is from Kingston, while Bailey is from New York, and they have lived in Canton since 1993, always planning to open a restaurant. According to Bailey, “This place, it allows you to make dreams happen if you stay focused.” They plan to feature traditional Jamaican cuisine, including beef, curry chicken, rice and beans, and vegetable patties. Ire Island Jamaican will be open six days a week, serving lunch and dinner from 11 am to 11 pm.
