A somewhat misleading name, since traditional Jamaican rice-and-peas doesn’t include any peas. The peas in the recipe are actually red beans, and the dish is a mainstay of Jamaicans’ diet. The special factor that makes the dish a real Jamaican treat is that the dish cooks in coconut milk, which creates a sweet and creamy side dish with a unique tropical vibe. And it wouldn’t be Jamaica if some peppers and other spices were added to kick the flavors up a notch. A completely satisfying and authentic island dining experience.
