South Florida’s weather experience this month for fans who flocked to the region to take in T20 World Cup 2024 Cricket action might not be one they will want to remember.  From June 11 through June 14, heavy and incessant rain showers blanketed the Miami-Fort Lauderdale areas and caused widespread flooding.  As it happened, the record breaking rainfall impacted the group stage match between Nepal and Sri Lanka, which had to be abandoned without a ball bowled due to the soggy outfield at the Broward County Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida.  And even though the rains somewhat subsided, the umpires after their walk-around and inspection of the field made the disappointing decision to abandon the match.  As a result, both Sri Lanka and Nepal each received one point in the tournament standings.  However, that meant that Sri Lanka’s World Cup campaign came to an end.

Meanwhile, fans of the Nepal Cricket squad who had come in droves to witness their team in action nonetheless celebrated in the stands in lively fashion.  The one point awarded to Nepal with the match washout marked their first in the T20 World Cup 2024 tournament competition.  It surely felt like a festive and party atmosphere all over the stadium, especially since the Nepalese fans seemingly outnumbered the contingent of Sri Lankan supporters.  What’s more, the Nepalese players delighted their fans after the match was called with a lap of honor around the field.
