Jamaica College Wins Boys’ Champs 2021, Edwin Allen High Defend Girls’ title

Jamaica College (JC) has won the 2021 Boys’ Champs beating the defending champions Kingston College (KC) at the National Stadium. JC will hold the Mortimer Geddes Trophy for the 22nd time in the history of the event. JC was first with 328.50 points, KC was second with 313 points, and Calabar High third with 241.50.

Edwin Allen High School won their 7th straight Champs/ISSA/GraceKennedy Girls’ title. Edwin Allen High School won with 340 points, St Jago High School was second with 309.5 points and Hydel High School was third with 301 points.

This year Champs was highly anticipated being that the 2020 Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championship was canceled due to the global coronavirus pandemic. Changes were made to the format of the event to satisfy the government’s COVID-19 protocols. Those changes included a cap on the number of athletes competing. The five-day event is typically held during the last week before Easter but the date changed due to COVID-19. This year’s Champs was held from May 11th to Saturday, May 15th without spectators.
