Jamaican Teenager Offered Choice of Nine U.S. University Scholarships

Jamaica’s Tchakamau Mahakoe, the brilliant teen who has been recognized for her academic achievements, has received acceptance letters from 11 universities in the United States, and nine of them have offered her scholarships. According to Tchakamau’s mother Kamau Mahakoe, who is very proud of her daughter’s achievements, called her “focused from the start.” The 17-teen-year-old was home-schooled before attending Immaculate Conception High School in St Andrew, and then receiving a scholarship to the Hillel Academy. Tchakamau has been accepted to Princeton, Duke, Yale, Stanford, and the University of Chicago. She plans a double major in physics and biology and wants to become an astronaut.
