This Past Sunday, July 19, 2015, Kiwanis Clubs of South Florida coordinated Christmas In July at the BB&T Center in Sawgrass. The 14 year old event serves families from homeless Shelters across the area by providing meals, clothing and other basic living needs.
Founder of the event, Dr. Celia Earle, Kiwanis Governor Elect for Florida, says that she is happy to be a part of a program that provide relief for the needy in our community. She further stated that the highest request from these homeless individuals is underwear.
She took time out thanked all the sponsors including cities, sheriff departments, police departments, individuals and private sector organizations who donated to this cause. Dr. Earle looks forward to 2016 when services offered will be extended and expanded.
Approximately 2400 individuals were served this year, an increase of 800+ over 2014
On another note, Dr. Celia Earle, a Jamaican, will be installed this August 2015-16 as Kiwanis Governor of the state of Florida; a feat no other woman/woman of color has accomplished. Congratulations Dr. Celia Earle.
